Desktopbox, was awarded the “Top Innovation Award”
from Television Broadcast magazine at the NAB 2007 convention
held in Las Vegas last month. The company’s innovative
Desktopbox Live Software was selected for the award.
Desktopbox live software uses computer web browser technologies
to automatically select live web links a user might
want to see while watching a television program. The
program enhances the viewing experience as viewers can
surf online and automatically receive query free searches,
pictures and information related to the particular show
they’re watching.
Industry professionals nominate products or technologies
to receive Television Broadcast Top Innovation Award.
The editorial team of Television Broadcast selects award
recipients by unanimous decision. The award is presented
in recognition of “Technology Insight for the
Bottom Line,” as award winners demonstrate a successful
combination of innovative technical achievement with
workflow and cost efficiencies.
“We’re thrilled to have received the Top
Innovation award from the prestigious Television Broadcast
magazine,” said Mike Church, president of Desktopbox.
“We see a huge potential for our technology within
the broadcast market, and are extremely encouraged by
this recognition.”
Desktopbox’s “simul-streamcasting”
creates a two-screen interactive TV model where broadcasters
and producers can send Web-based URLs synchronized with
a television or radio program to viewers’ Internet
browsers. The web experience that Desktopbox produces
compliments a television production. During the show,
consumers access specific URLs to get relevant, supplemental
data. A viewer watching an awards show, for example,
could select a URL can that links to a particular actor’s
award history or filmography. Even radio experiences
can be enhanced by play lists, lyrics, and CD ordering
information. Viewers can access the data live during
the show; or on-demand from their Personal Video Recorders
(PVRs), Video on Demand (VoD) servers, and DVDs. Desktopbox
live systems create media convergence in an engaging
environment.
